In an attempt to display images better for us, and for the wonderful people we are able to photograph, we've set up a blog that's a little more professional. Kaniela has finally learned to put himself to sleep at night, and for the most part is able to sleep through the entire night. It's been great for Cea because she doesn't have to wake up in the middle of the night to put him back to sleep. He gets up between 5:30 and 6:00 each morning, and loves it when we get him and bring him to lay down with us. On a good morning, he'll just cuddle up with us and fall asleep. This morning he was especially cute.

Cea took these on her visit to see the Rich Ohana (her oldest Sister Jacki's family). She's got beautiful nieces, and had so much fun taking these. So much in fun in fact that she forgot to bring our camera back with her on the flight! Jacki and Ron...thanks for letting Cea take pictures of your beautiful girls!

It's been so much fun for me to learn about photography. I've been taking an online photography class, and was doing very well with it until the last 4 weeks or so (it's a good thing it's not graded). Work has gotten very busy, and so I haven't been able to spend as much time learning the art as I'd like. I have learned one thing however: I love photography because it allows me to capture moments and personalities. In this post, as well as the last one, I really feel like I've been able to capture the essence of my little family. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

My mom came in to town for a week. We took the day off to spend with her, and while she was running some errands with my brother, we decided to take Kaniela to Temple Square for an hour. He had just gotten up from a nap and was in such a good mood, so we had to shoot these! I am forever amazed at how fast this little guy is growing. Cea and I really feel we captured a lot of his personality in these shots.

Day 3. Packed with Fun.

Some good friends of mine make their living by carving Hawaiian keepsakes such as Tikis. Their new things are these little Honu (turtles). We visit them on every trip back home, and today we picked up a little Honu for Kaniela. If you're ever on Maui, and want/need a great keepsake...they're the best

.Our local church held a lu'au tonight. Great food. Great entertainment. Great fun. All the entertainment were friends of mine. I forgot how talented they all were.

Tonight was also the Makawao Hongwanji Bon Dance. I remember coming to this every year growing up. My mother's family was always very involved. It was Cea's first time. She danced with my mom and cousin Evan (more pictures will be put on our other blog), and I got to see a lot of great friends.

That little statue was in my grandmother's yard for as long as I can remember. When they sold her house, my mom brought it to ours. We got Bubba almost 15 years ago. We've had a few scares, but he's still trucking along.

Notes: If you saw my last post, you know that I bought a new camera lens. Kaniela and I decided to practice with it in preparation for our trip. We're going home to Hawaii to spend some time with my Mom and Dad. It'll be the first trip home for Kaniela. I am absolutely in love with the new lens...I think that the pictures above explain why.

Notes: I have some friends in New York, who on their blog, they post pictures of hearts that were found. Notes: At work, they were doing a redesign of the website. We basically needed some "stock-looking" photos of residents at the property. They opted to have me do it (cheap and quick), and we just hired in-house "models" from our CA group. We had a little fun with it...some of it we'll use at work, some of it we won't (like the shoe shot), but at least we had a lot of fun.

I know, the pictures are corny, and probably not the best, but I have to at least put them on here so I hopefully I can look back at it a year from now and see an improvement (self-satisfaction is one of the greatest feelings ever).

My First Assignment

In my attempt to become a better photographer, I'm planning on taking an online class in about a month, but until then, I wanted some reading material. I bought Digital Photography Master Class by Tom Ang the other night. It's been super fun to read, and I feel like I'm learning a lot. At the end of every section, he gives an "assignment" to go out and use some of what you learned. These past few chapters were about shutter-speed, aperture, and the proper use of light. The assignment was to go out and shoot lights at night to learn how to find the right settings. This lamp was shot out of convenience...it's practically in my uncle's yard, so more are to come. As I learn more and take more pictures, I'll be sure to post more...let me know what you think.

Notes: We had a get together tonight at my uncle's place. We got to see some friends who we haven't seen in a while. They were all amazed at how big Kaniela was, and like the wonderful boy he is, he wowed the crowd and was so well behaved and fun tonight.

Notes: Celena had a training today with her "Community Ambassadors" at the property. They wanted some pictures of the group that they can use for publicity, so we took a few shots. One of my first real times shooting a group. I mostly posted them on the blog so that they could all see them (you know how college kids are when they've got a camera on them). What a great group by the way...they are all amazing people to work with and great friends as well!
